As global head of external workforce for Block (formerly Square), Wesley Beck has built a best-in-class workforce program that covers all aspects of contingent labor across Block’s unique business ecosystems within 37 countries. Block offers integrated financial services solutions to businesses and creates economic empowerment for the community through tools such as Cash App and Square POS.

Block had no contingent program when Beck came on board in August 2021. Having a wealth of experience in all aspects of the contingent workforce with major companies like Honda, Facebook and Google, Beck was well equipped to design a program that would result in a robust compliance framework, significant cost savings, and workforce guidance for Block.

Using his holistic viewpoint and thought leadership, Beck created team structures, developed policies and procedures, diverse supplier management, and instilled the dynamic technology needed to support the program. He also built deep relationships with the executive partner teams at Block, taking the time to understand their pain points and educate them on the merits of utilizing the contingent workforce as a strategic component of total talent.

Beck views a successful program as a marriage between technology and strategy that keeps people at the center. His vision is to develop vertical strategies for both internal and external partners that feed into a holistic view of the total talent workforce at Block. An avid champion for servant leadership, Beck is passionate about empowering others with growth opportunities while providing people-centric service leadership in all aspects of his program.
