Melissa Ansell started with biopharmaceutical company Amgen five years ago to improve its staff augmentation program. She grew the program into a global external workforce center that trains all Amgen managers and provides extensive program governance, hiring consultation and quality assurance to its external worker population comprising staff augmentation, project-based workers and external service providers.

This summer, Ansell joined talent acquisition to “get a bigger picture” of the total workforce. As senior manager, talent acquisition business partner – corporate functions, she plans to build a bridge between the external and internal workforces to give the company a holistic view of its workforce. To add more skill and diversity to the talent pool, Ansell plans to engage a third-party service provider and utilize artificial intelligence to contact qualified candidates directly.

Ansell is also growing the independent consultant validation program that she built and worked with her team to expand internationally in her previous role. The program enables the company’s internal business partners to look at incoming requests at a request level rather than at a payment level, involving them earlier in the process to ensure more efficiency and better compliance.

Prior to Amgen, Ansell held various workforce management and procurement roles of increasing responsibility. She has developed and implemented cost reduction and agile bill rate strategies while developing robust, sustainable programs. Ansell is particularly proud of leading Amgen’s Covid-19 response for external workers, helping to uphold Amgen’s commitment to keep their people and their families safe through these challenging times.
