Kedaar Raman joined the New York Power Authority almost a decade ago, and with his background as an electrical engineer, he quickly climbed the ranks; in 2021, he accepted his current role as director of corporate strategy, where he leads NYPA’s statement-of-work (SOW) program.

Raman and his team provide governance across eight business units, including business scope review and advisory services. They introduced quality control, governance, corporate policies and procedures, and training to employees to increase and optimize business value. What was meant to be a year-long project was done in just six months thanks to Raman and his team.

Raman is also responsible for helping create three governance teams, as NYPA has split up the governance function between management consulting, operations consulting and technology consulting. This enables people in those areas to be in charge of their own governance. “This decreases friction and increases accessibility. Everyone’s got a large enough domain where they can operate from the governance team standpoint without stepping on each other’s toes,” Raman shares.

NYPA’s SOW program has gotten very positive feedback from stakeholders. In fact, NYPA has even published examples of good SOWs for other people to use and to build templates, which has been very valuable for infrequent buyers.

Looking ahead, Raman states that NYPA is considering investing in new and innovative technologies, and he is carefully watching the market to see what the best move will be to best position the company for continued success.
