Dené Matchett joined Pitney Bowes 11 years ago as an HR business operations manager and quickly rose through the ranks; earlier this year, she was appointed senior director of HR Shared Services. The department in 2013 gained responsibility of the company’s contingent labor program. At the time, the program was about $30 million in annual spend, but an acquisition several years later rocketed the program to 250% growth.

Matchett enjoys the day-to-day variation of her role and overcoming challenges as they arise. “It’d be nice to have a quiet day, but if I had more than one, I would probably be looking for a new job!” she laughs.

Because the contingent labor program at Pitney Bowes is mostly focused on light industrial, workers needed to be on-site during the Covid-19 pandemic. Matchett and her team worked to support the organization’s commitment to essential workers, which included putting protective measures in place at work sites ranging from plexiglass dividers to on-site vaccination clinics. Pitney Bowes further prioritized the health and safety of all workers by paying workers if they were out ill with Covid-19, had a vaccination appointment during company time or missed work when feeling unwell due to side effects from the vaccine. For Matchett’s commitment to the well-being of the organization’s contingent workforce — as well as its employees — she became the second-ever recipient of the company’s “Living Our Values” award in 2021, which she proudly calls the highlight of her career.
