As the director of contingent labor for The Cigna Group, Ben Cadbury has been a critical part of the 70,000-employee company’s strategic efforts to align its contracted workforce with its holistic talent strategy. Cadbury has worked at The Cigna Group for 11 years, the last four of which in talent acquisition. Under his leadership, the contingent labor program has grown nearly five-fold from when Cadbury joined the company, all while maintaining consistency in outcomes for customers.

Cadbury’s team has taken a strategic approach. “We’re really spending a lot of time thinking about how to continue to innovate from a data and analytics perspective,” he says. “How are we thinking about data differently to use it more effectively as a strategic tool than a tactical one?”

In addition to building a scalable and data-driven program, The Cigna Group has committed to seeking and optimizing diverse partnerships. Cadbury’s department contributes to these efforts by seeking and onboarding diversity-owned suppliers. Now, almost 50% of the program’s US temporary labor expenditures go through those firms.

Cadbury says he is excited about The Cigna Group’s journey as an evolving healthcare leader and he gives credit to those around him, viewing every success as a team accomplishment. “I’m incredibly proud of the team we have here,” he says. “They do a tremendous job supporting a large organization.”
