A positive experience for end users. That is Rebecca Walsh’s (pictured, far left) goal for Oracle’s global contingent workforce program as director, external contractors – global procurement. So, in January 2020, she brought the program internal, having already replaced the existing VMS technology and removed the MSP to fully insource and optimize operations.

“For us it was just the right time,” Walsh says. “We developed our own expertise and several people on the team had come from a staffing or MSP background. When it came down to it, the decision was made that assuming control of the program was the natural next step for us.”

Walsh’s program handles staff augmentation in the Americas, EMEA and APAC regions and oversees about one-third of Oracle’s extended workforce. It also manages a subset of SOW projects as well as independent contractors in the US & Canada. In total, about 11 countries are actively using the VMS. And having internal employees in these key roles equals huge improvements for the user experience through the end-to-end process. It also leads to greater compliance.

Bringing the program internal has increased its value to the organization overall as well as its role as a collaborator. The shift from “self-service” to more centralized, efficient and automated processes means stakeholders are happier using the program and this in turn will have a positive impact on adoption.

Going forward, adoption is still key across the business as the program continues to expand the use of the system in different countries.
