Director of Sourcing, HR and Contingent Labor Lisa Zak led the effort to part ways with its MSP in 2018, developing in-house capabilities to advance global expansion and Medtronic’s journey toward total talent management. “It was a very rewarding yet challenging project,” she chuckles. “In addition to saving Medtronic millions, we’ve been able to focus on strategies that advance workforce intelligence, bringing valuable insights.”

In 2011, she joined Medtronic’s sourcing organization as a category manager supporting HR and contingent labor. “I love [the contingent labor space] because it’s never static,” she says. “It’s exciting to see where the world of talent resides and how it’s being transformed.” She adds that the emergence of the gig workforce, a desire for freelancers, and new platforms for direct sourcing all drive Medtronic towards talent innovation.

Amid Covid-19, Medtronic has extended a number of employee programs to include contractors and keep them safe and motivated. “Medtronic continues to lead with our company mission,” she adds. “We are dedicated to alleviating pain, restoring health and extending life; therefore we are committed to the safety and health of our holistic workforce.”

Her career with the medical technology, services and solutions company began in 2004. She was part of its contingent labor program, and spent seven years with Volt Consulting Group focused on developing efficiencies and reinventing the program value to the organization.
