As a director on the GBS procurement team, Henry Murphy III oversees S&P Global’s people services procurement, contingent workforce, and supplier diversity initiatives. S&P’s contingent workforce program was relaunched in 2019. Previously serving just the US, the global program is now branded as Talent Bridge and includes all business divisions; it has been rolled out in North America and EMEA, APAC and Latin America to follow.

Murphy notes his most recent achievement was the creation of the supplier diversity and contingent workforce policies and programs. “By developing the programs in tandem, we were given the unique opportunity to be thoughtful around their interaction, which has led to increasing the number of diverse suppliers in the CW program by approximately 50%,” he says. Murphy hopes this will provide a consistent, effective, and simplified process for sourcing diverse talent.

He has worked in the procurement and HR industries for over 15 years, gaining a global perspective developing and leading programs for companies such as Allstate Insurance, United Airlines, Zurich Financial, Tyson Foods, Baxalta and Shire Pharmaceuticals.

On significant changes in the staffing ecosystem, Murphy feels the most promising trend is toward viewing the contingent workforce as part of the overall workforce picture and not something separate. He thinks companies have realized that by integrating the contingent program data with the enterprise resource planning system data, you can create a truer picture of your workforce, leading to better strategic decision-making.
