Deepak Negi is head of operations for extended workforce at Google, overseeing all lifecycle services, temp staffing services and systems and business intelligence. His team is responsible for bringing people effectiveness, process simplicity and technology enablement to deliver scaled service delivery for one of the largest programs in the technology industry.

After assuming this role in October 2018, he and his team have put the program on a transformational journey. He worked to create a metric-driven organization that is enabled by insights for effective governance and outcomes. His team reduced Google’s staffing provider pool by  about 50% through a performance framework, which reduced hiring lead time by around 70% while increasing supplier diversity. In addition, his team worked with staffing companies to deliver a new enhanced benefits plan for temporary workforce in 2020.

When the pandemic hit, his team enabled Google’s extended workforce to remain operational and productive globally, working closely with business areas. In his personal view, all organizations in the future will work to build a more resilient workforce and service delivery model with a shift to automation. While the need for contingent workforce will not go away after the pandemic, he foresees a shift to new operating models.
