Chris Kelley, sourcing director with Uber, has spent most of his career in  procurement, partnering with MSPs and VMSs to build or rebuild contingent labor programs. When he joined Uber in September 2018, he was tasked with migrating the internally managed program from HR to procurement, bringing in an MSP, restructuring the VMS and expanding to 66 new countries. The program expects to have 100% of its global non-employee population tracked through the new VMS by the end of September.

Kelley credits his team for the program’s ability to support substantial growth across an ever-increasing geographic footprint. Before the global implementation efforts, the team was unable to track and ensure compliance with local employment laws but now they have a much better pulse on compliance across borders. He notes that a project like this takes a prodigious amount of work and attention to detail. “I have an amazing team that all see the value and sense of satisfaction that you get when you solve problems at this scale.”

Moving forward, Kelley is excited to see how algorithm-based innovations open more avenues to connect people to work.
